Under a blazing sun, the clash proved a fitting finale to a great days action where the Welsh Senior Schools and Colleges Rugby Union held three finals in the Cardiff citadel.
There was little to separate to the two teams in the first half with both sides giving everything to get their hands on Welsh schoolboys’ ultimate prize, with Preseli holding a slender 3-0 lead at the break, thanks to a Jac Davies penalty.
But Brynteg gained the upper hand in the second spell and scored three tries with Tom Sielenski ploughing over from close range before impressive Orun Harry bagged a brace to put his side in command.
For the first try he showed strength to charge through two tacklers to dive over and for the second he displayed good support play when he was on hand when hard running winger Joseph Davies flipped the ball inside to leave the try-line at Harry’s mercy.
With Matthew Hobby adding the extras, Brynteg had wrestled control of proceedings, but battling Preseli had the final word in the final stages when second row Rhydian Howells gave his side hope with a close range try that Rhun Phillips converted.
Ysgol Dyffryn Amman ruled supreme in the Plate final, brushing aside Bridgend College 25-8. In another match where both sides were evenly matched, Amman Valley led 10-5 at the break before three second half tries pulled them away from Bridgend’s grasp.
In the first half Garin Criddle and Rhys Thomas Jones scored tries with Jordan Richards dotting down for Bridgend.
Tom George slotted a penalty after the break for Bridgend but Levi Gape and Morgan Llewellyn (2) crossed for well taken tries to earn the honours for Amman Valley.
In the Circle IT Vase final, St John’s CCS/Mountain Ash CS secured a 19-12 victory against Ysgol Greenhill in another entertaining encounter.
Full back Morgan Biggins and second row Alex Nunn were the try scorers for the victors with the latter bagging a brace with Cameron Samuel adding two conversions while in reply outside backs David Machin and Ben Pugh crossed with Harri Williams adding a conversion for the Tenby side.
