Speedster Evans get Neath chance

After a fortnight’s interlude in the British & Irish Cup which produced a splendid victory at Bristol and a home defeat by efficient Munster ‘A’, Neath return to Principality Premiership action and an exciting home tie against Bedwas at The Gnoll (kick off 2.30pm).

Behind the scrum speedy wing David Evans and young scrum-half Tom Barry stake their claims. Up front, hooker Rhodri Clancy comes into the front row while new capture from Tonmawr Jonathan Griffiths is likely to replace Nathan Bonner-Evans in the second row allowing Adam Powell to switch to the back row to cover for captain Gareth Gravell.

Neath coach Patrick Horgan was pleased with his side’s efforts in the British & Irish Cup but says, “The Premiership is our bread and butter and we need to re-assert ourselves against Bedwas who gave us a stiff examination up there on the opening day of the season.

“Bedwas are having a good season and they have already beaten sides like Swansea, Newport and last week Bridgend and they also toppled Llandovery who have taken advantage of the BIC break to take over the League leadership.

“We have a lot of respect for what Bedwas have achieved and we know they are a very dangerous team. Our boys have been playing well recently and we need to play with the same attitude on Saturday – it promises to be a good clash.”
