Nathan Trowbridge, Ieaun Jones and Barney Nightingale crossed for tries for the home side in a comfortable win that saw outside half Josh Prosser put the boot into his old club with two conversions and a penalty.

Keys have been the in-from side since the turn of the year. They lost their first game of 2017, 11-0 to Ebbw Vale, but since that disappointment they haven’t looked back and with three games left to play in Tier 2 look well placed for the play-offs.

Bargoed put up a stubborn fight, but fell to their third straight loss after beginning the year brightly. It didn;t help that they picked up a yellow and red card in the second half.

A scrappy start saw the game hang in the balance, but Trowbridge broke the deadlock with a try in the corner midway through the first-half after Prosser’s precise kick. Prosser couldn’t add the extras, and Bargoed then went close through David Evans and Keiron Brown who were both held short.

Prosser added a penalty to make it 8-0 at the break and after the interval Keys came out firing. They made the most of a Bulls knock-on, bagging a try through former Dragons No 8 Jones with Prosser this time hitting the mark with the conversion.

Bargoed failed to offer much resistance and went down to 14 when Jack Williams was sin-binned at a scrum. Nightingale capitalised by sliding in at the posts for the third try before Duane Dyer saw red at the death for the visitors.
