Meanwhile, fellow Pro 12 champion Rhys Patchell and Thomas’ Ospreys front team mate, prop Rhodri Jones have been called into Wales’ training camp in North Wales, as cover for Exeter Chiefs’ Phil Dollman and Scarlet Samson Lee who will undergo scans on Tuesday after picking up knee injuries in their respective title-winning matches last night (Saturday).
Wales head coach Robin McBryde congratulated the Scarlets on their victory after arriving in Colwyn Bay for their training camp, which culminates in a match against RGC 1404 on Friday night (Parc Eirias, 7pm, S4C)
“The Scarlets’ performances in beating first Leinster and then Munster so convincingly to win the Guinness Pro 12 has lifted not only the Scarlets players, but the whole squad.
“We are looking forward to a good week’s training together as a squad at the fantastic Parc Eirias facilities and Friday’s match will be an important part of our preparation before facing Samoa and Tonga.
“We have to accept that injuries are part and parcel of rugby at the very top level and we will wait medical opinion following scans to Samson and Phil on Tuesday before making any further decisions.”
Thomas added to Wales squad
Ospreys prop Gareth Thomas as been brought into the Wales squad for the forthcoming Summer Tour after a hand injury to Guinness Pro 12 champion Rob Evans has forced him to withdraw.
