Hartridge roll of honour continues to grow

Hartrdige’s recent trophy haul continued as they celebrated winning Division Three East A – their fourth consecutive league title.

They ended the season with a stunning 99-0 victory over Blackwood Stars but had Usk to thank after they beat Caerphilly on the final day of the season to help Hartridge win the league by one point.

And club secretary Ross Palmer believes it was a justified end to the season.

“It’s absolutely fantastic, it’s our fourth league title in a row. But this year was our sternest test as we played more established teams like Caerphilly,” he said.

“They may not seem big on some scale but for a small club, we haven’t even got WRU status yet, it is. A lot of hard work went in to it and we only lost one game in the league all season so I think we deserved it too.

“We beat Caerphilly twice and conceded the least points in the league but where we struggled was getting bonus points.

“It would have been heart-breaking to go through the season only losing one game and then not winning the league. But we thoroughly deserved it.”

And Palmer sees no reason why Hartridge cannot continue to climb up the leagues.

“We are looking to bring in one or two players to strengthen the squad but I think we’ll have a real good go in the next league and I don’t think we’ll be too far off,” he insisted.

“Division Two doesn’t hold any fear for us, we just worry about ourselves rather than other teams.”
