Cardiff Blues flanker Jenkins is a former Wales Under-20 captain and has previous experience of leading the country’s young guns out in Colwyn Bay.

Now, the 24-year-old is back in north Wales with Robin McBryde’s senior squad.

He said: “When I first came up to Eirias it was the first big game to be held up here and we had great support. Since then RGC have done really well and finished this season off with a win in the National Cup.

“We’re enjoying being up here and just trying to make sure we’re up to speed.

“We’ve had a couple of good training sessions and we’re looking forward to finishing it off against RGC on Friday. The facilities are incredible. The pitch and gym are all in one place and it’s top notch.

“It takes a while to get up here, but when you do it’s a top-class training environment.”

Jenkins won his first full Wales cap on last summer’s tour of New Zealand and finished the season just gone strongly with Cardiff Blues.

McBryde’s Wales squad to face Tonga and Samoa later this month contains a number of young players who are bedding into the systems required at international level this week.

“It’s a little bit different because there are a lot of boys who are getting their first experience of the Wales camp. It’s more of a learning week at the moment,” Jenkins said.

“We’re trying to get the boys up to speed on our defensive patterns and attacking shape. We want to try and get to know each other because there are guys who have never played together.

“That’s the challenge for us, but training has been going really well and we’ve been enjoying it.”

Wales have named five uncapped players in their starting XV to face RGC. Jenkins, alongside Blues team-mate Gareth Anscombe, provides a greater deal of regional experience.

He added: “Everyone wants to be involved. It’s nice to get the opportunity to start and it’s up to us now to make the most of the chance.”
