NATIONAL BOWL: Busy cup weekend for Risca RFC

It is going to be a busy weekend for the Risca club with their 1st XV travelling to reigning champions Penallta in the WRU National Plate and their 2nd XV heading to New Tredegar in the second round of the WRU National Bowl.

The WRU admitted 2nd XVs into the Bowl for the first time this season and Risca beat Crumlin 29-8 in their opening game to reach the next round. The dream for the Gwent club would be to see both teams reach the Principality Stadium for finals weekend in May.

?Division 3A East leaders Newport HSOB may be sitting pretty at the top of the table after four successive wins, but they face a tough test of their credentials when they travel to Bargoed to tackle the Principality Premiership side’s 2nd XV in Round 2.

Nantgaredig, beaten only once in Division 3B West, head west to meet Pembroke Dock Quins looking to build on their fine start to the new season, while 2016 champions Burry Port head to league rivals New Dock Stars.

Cardigan reached the semi-finals last season and will be hoping to reach the third round with a home win over Crymych II. The 2016 runners-up, Taffs Well, head to Machen, while the reward for Risca IIs for their 29-8 first round win over Crumlin is a trip to New Tredegar.
