The former Dragons pivot has settled in well at Bridge Field since arriving in the summer, helping the side to top of Principality Premiership East with six wins from seven, their only defeat a narrow 25-22 loss away to Cross Keys.

“Things are going well this season. We’ve got a good blend of experience and youth in the group and the players and new coaching team have gelled well too since Ian Gardner took over as head coach. Some of the experienced players such as Nicky Griffiths and Ross Wardle have helped my transition to the club and our forwards have put in a massive shift over the last few weeks.

Having reached the semi-finals last season and lifted the Foster’s Challenge Cup, Jones says the club is ambitious for more success. “First and foremost, we have to take each week at a time otherwise we will come unstuck but we would like to go one step further than last year. It’s important we take our momentum into the New Year and the second half of the season.”

Bedwas’ opening victory – away to Pontypridd on August Bank Holiday – got their season off to a great start – and sets up the return fixture nicely – at home this Saturday.

“We were the first Bedwas side to win at Sardis Road but we all know how good Ponty can be on their day. We have to concentrate on ourselves this week – if we perform well, hopefully the result on Saturday will reflect that.”

Charlotte Perkins, Customer Consultant at Principality Building Society in Cardiff Queen Street, said: “Congratulations to Steffan for being awarded the Principality Premiership Player of the Month. After his amazing 59m penalty last month, it is no surprise that he won! Everyone here in Branch wish him and Bedwas RFC the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
