PREM EAST: Bedwas looking for more of the same

Having booted Bedwas back to winning ways last weekend, Steffan Jones will be looking to do more of the same against Cross Keys in the opening game of the Principality Premiership East Division weekend.

Jones scored 21 points in the 26-20 win at Bargoed to not only help his side end a run of three successive defeats, but also put one over on his younger brother Calum, who was playing opposite him in the home side’s No 10 jersey.

Keys hit their straps last weekend with a 35-27 home win over Cardiff and will travel in much better spirits as they seek to complete a notable double having won the game at Pandy Park 25-22. Bedwas are now five points behind joint leaders Merthyr and Pontypridd, with Keys in sixth.

Cardiff travel to Ebbw Vale on Saturday, while Bargoed have to head to Pontypridd. Justin Burnell’s side will still be reeling from their 50-21 hammering at The Wern last weekend, although can at least look back on a 43-33 win over the Black & Ambers earlier in the season.

Merthyr, meanwhile, will look to consolidate their place at the top of the table with another home game. They host one off the bottom Bargoed and will be looking to add to the seven tries they ran in against Ponty last weekend.
