The third win in a row at home over the Springboks brought the series to a winning climax and set-up the squad for a massive opening match in the Six Nations at home against the resurgent Scots in two months time.
“It’s pleasing that we’ve finished on a high. We’ve got two from four, but we probably would have liked a minimum of three wins,” said Jones.
“We can take heart from the positives from the first half against New Zealand and the second half against Australia. We recovered from a second half repost from South Africa, when they came out of the tunnel for the second half which we didn’t do against New Zealand.
“The last week was all about being positive on the back foot and not giving away penalties, being comfortable in defence and obviously doing the positive aspects going forward. We finished with a win and now there’s domestic rugby to go back to before we come back when there are points at stake for wins and losses.”
The skipper moved on to 113 Welsh caps, and 121 combined with his nine tests with the British & Irish Lions, to edge closer to the record held by Cardiff Blues skipper Gethin Jenkins of 129 Welsh caps and 134 all tolled.
