Rhiwbina U11s help Wales roar into action

A team of passionate young rugby fans helped get Welsh rugby roaring into action ahead of this year’s RBS 6 Nations tournament, after winning a once- in-a-lifetime competition with Wales’ favourite pie maker.

As part of its ongoing support for Welsh rugby, Peter’s composed a rousing rhyme to cheer on the Welsh team during the Six Nations clashes, and asked young rugby teams across Wales to help bring it to life.

Rhiwbina Under 11s team submitted the winning video clip of their performance of the Peter’s ‘Rugby Roar’; complete with action shots of the team showing off their skills in snowy conditions.

The young rugby fanatics were rewarded by Peter’s with the unique chance to attend the Captain’s Run on February 1st – the final training session at the Millennium Stadium before Wales faced Ireland.

Rhiwbina Under 11s manager, Mike McCarthy, who has been coaching the team for the past five years, said: “The team had a great time putting the video together and coming up with ideas for shots. They couldn’t believe their luck when they found out they’d be going to the Millennium Stadium to see the Wales team train, for some of them it’s their first visit. They really look up to the Welsh players and many of them are hoping to follow in their footsteps and play for Wales one day.”

Peter’s Marketing Controller Clare Morgan said: “We were blown away by the creativity and enthusiasm the Rhiwbina team demonstrated in their video – we could tell they were true rugby fans. We were delighted to be able to take the team along to the Millennium Stadium to help kick off the Six Nations in style and show their support for the Wales team. They are as passionate about Welsh rugby as we are!”

The Wales Rugby Roar is the latest in a series of creative support for Welsh rugby from Peter’s. In 2012, the Caerphilly-based savoury food specialist created a 35kg ‘pie portrait’ of rugby star Jamie Roberts, after he was voted Wales’ tastiest player in a Peter’s survey.

Peter’s also helped one young rugby fan meet his hero Rhys Priestland, through its ‘Mini Me’ lookalike competition during the autumn international series.
