Ponty face Tata test

Pontypridd face an away trip to Championship side Tata Steel on Saturday as they look to maintain their impressive recent form.

The Sardis Road club are well used to making their Cup progress at away venues – they came through a daunting trip to Llanelli in the last round with a 14-22 victory.

The opposition this time around may be from a lower division, but will offer as stern a test of character and ability in their own right.

Dale McIntosh’s side go into the tie with two new injury absentees amongst the squad. Tight head prop Keiron Jenkins suffered a recurrence of a chest muscle tear in the away league match at Bridgend last weekend whilst flanker Rhys Shellard has returned from Wales Sevens duties with a slight achilles strain.

Making a welcome return from international duties, with the Sevens and under 20s squads respectively, are centre Adam Thomas and prop Bradley Thyer.

Amongst a number of changes made to the team that won at Bridgend are the centre pairing of Dafydd Lockyer and Gary Williams and the half back partnership of Simon Humberstone and Gareth James. Youngsters Jack Dando at hooker and Jordan Sieniawski at lock are given their opportunities amongst the pack.

Pontypridd: 15 Gareth Wyatt 14 Chris Clayton 13 Dafydd Lockyer 12 Gary Williams 11 Owen Williams 10 Simon Humberstone 9 Gareth James, 1 Scott Roberts 2 Jack Dando 3 Bradley Thyer 4 Jordan Sieniawski 5 Chris Dicomidis (c) 6 Ed Siggery 7 Tom Hetherington 8 Dan Godfrey.
Replacements: Carl Thomas, Dai Flanagan, Adam Thomas, Darran Harris, Owen Sheppeard, Craig Locke, Chris Phillips, Stuart Williams.
