Wales, who suffered last gasp defeats to Ireland and England at the same venue last season, will be hoping for better fortunes 12 months on when they host Italy on Sunday 2nd February (1pm), France on Sunday 23rd February (2pm) and Scotland on Sunday 16th March (2pm).
Aberavon’s Commercial Manager Gareth Howells is delighted to see Rhys Edwards’ team return to the Athletic Ground.
“We as a club are keen to support the development of the women’s game and it’s great that we are bringing international rugby back to the town and the wider area,” he said.
“The whole community embraced the games last year and witnessed some really good matches. We’re already looking forward to watching another wonderful spectacle against Italy, France and Scotland.”
Edwards is hoping the big crowds that witnessed last year’s nail biters against Ireland and England will return in force for 2014.
“Aberavon RFC really made us feel welcome last season. It was great for the players to play in front of big vocal crowds and this year with three games against Italy, France and Scotland hopefully that will be the case again,” he said.
“Now we know we are definitely returning we can begin our planning for the campaign ahead and make Aberavon our ‘home’ – most of the squad have already experienced playing there which is great for us as the ground has a proud history and tradition and we want to stamp our own mark on the famous ground.”
Wales captain Rachel Taylor echoed her coach’s sentiments.
“We really enjoyed playing at Aberavon last season in front of a family orientated atmosphere so hopefully we can make it a real fortress in what will be great preparation where we face three tough teams,” she said.
“France in particular will be interesting as we play them at home before taking them on in their own back yard in the World Cup a few months later.”
