Fofana enjoying senior role

Ahead of their clash with Wales this Friday, France centre Wesley Fofana says he is enjoying life as one of the key men for Les Bleus.

The Clermont Auvergne man has had a huge impact on the international game since marking his French debut with a try against Italy in 2012. In this year’s RBS 6 Nations campaign, the 26-year-old has guided France to back-to-back victories, again on the score sheet in the comprehensive defeat of the Azzurri last time out.

In a French squad which features plenty of emerging talents, Fofana is already an established name. And he says he is relishing his role as one of the squad’s more experienced names.

“I have spoken to Philippe Saint-Andre a lot, he has explained my role in the three quarters,” said Fofana.

“I have absolutely no problem with being a leader out on the pitch. I am just going to show the right way to play, as far as I know, and do what I can.

“I have been with the team a while now, I know the systems in place and I know where we want to get to. If I can bring something to the team on the pitch then that’s great.”

Fofana’s devastating turn of pace will be something for Wales to keep an eye on this Friday. Elsewhere, Saint Andre has been hit by the loss of hooker Benjamin Kayser, who is out for the rest of the Championship after suffering a knee injury last weekend.

“A few years ago I just had to catch the ball and run with it in order to help the team,” said Fofana.

“Now I try to be a creator while also being a finisher when required. My role is to speak to the three quarters and to the forwards, it has forced me to open up to others and I take pleasure in doing it.

“I am not here to hand out lessons though, I prefer to let my actions do the talking.”
