Williams targeting winning streak

Wales centre Scott Williams is determined to keep the Scarlets juggernaut rolling after they clinched their first victory of the new Guinness PRO12 season.

The West Walians ran in seven tries in their demolition of basement boys Benetton Treviso on Saturday to recover from their second round defeat at Leinster. And WIlliams is urging his Parc y Scarlets teammates to build on their 43-0 home triumph.

“We need to build on this momentum going into the next couple of games. Edinburgh are a good team. That’ll be the challenge for us now to put in another performance next week.

“We worked hard all week and we were bitterly disappointed with the result against Leinster. We’d been training a lot on our defence this week – to get a clean sheet was positive. Scoring seven tries and not conceding any was a good thing. It was the perfect start really. We were hungry in defence, wanting to get the ball back and Emyr Phillips scored a lovely try right from the off.”

Scarlets travel to Murrayfield on Friday to take on a wounded Edinburgh side fresh from their 62-13 thrashing at the hands of the Ospreys. They then welcome the winless Newport Gwent Dragons to Llanelli a week later as they look to go one step further than last year and break into the play-off picture.

But Williams reckons that will be an easier task after ending their winless streak last weekend.
He said: “It felt like there was a bit of pressure on us all week to put things right and get our season back on track. We’ve played the top two teams at the start. The next three games, which includes a big derby, are crucial going into European competition.”
