Scarlets Director of Rugby Wayne Pivac has told his side that a European Rugby Champions Cup victory over Leicester will be worth it’s weight in gold.

The Llanelli region welcome the Tigers to Parc y Scarlets this Saturday on the back of a spirited performance at the home of champions Toulon.

They went down 28-18 at the Stade Mayol after John Barclay’s try had handed them a brief advantage, and there were plenty of positives for Pivac after the French test.

He said: “We’ll take a lot out of that performance and we’ll head home and prepare for the fixture against Leicester with a lot of confidence.

“You’ve got to win your home games, it’s as simple as that really. They got a win at home in their first game so they’ll be trying to pinch some points from us. We have to make sure we’re up for that game.”

The West Walians are the only side in Pool Three who have not won the competition but they held their own at the home of the back-to-back champions.

And having narrowly missed out on a losing bonus point in the South of France, the need for a home win against the two-time European kings.

He said: “It was pretty frenetic really. The guys put in a fairly solid effort in the first half to get us into a good position. The guys were in pretty positive mood at half time.

“I was pleased with our defence and we turned our defence in to attack on a few occasion – we saw a big improvement.”

“A bonus point would certainly have made it a little bit easier to take but certainly we threw the kitchen sink at trying to get the bonus point and coming back to score the try at the end was pleasing.”
