Newport Gwent Dragons full-back Hallam Amos is hoping to use his experience in Warren Gatland’s Wales squad on his Rodney Parade return.

The 20-year-old is back in the Dragons side for their European Rugby Challenge Cup clash with Bucharest Wolves on Saturday after spending the Autumn in Wales’ Dove Men+ Care series setup. And he is keen to showcase the skills he picked up during his time on the international scene.

He said: “I didn’t get an opportunity in the autumn but it bodes well for the future and I learnt a lot. I was 24th man for three games and it was good to soak up the pre-match atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium while the fitness work was really tough.

“The cryotherapy let us do three sessions a day and it was hard both physically and mentally. Now I am concentrating on performing for the Dragons and I know that I have to improve my level of consistency; I’ve seen the Leigh Halfpenny and George North repeating how well they do things over and over again.”

The Dragons need to back-up their 37-10 Romanian triumph on Saturday night to keep alive their quarter-final hopes. They sit three points behind Newcastle Falcons, who top Pool Three on 14 points. And Amos wants a European victory in order to go back into PRO12 action on a high.

He said: “It’s an important month for us and we want to keep building. We are looking for five wins from this festive period and if we get them then we will have got our season back on track.

“We have to be careful against Bucharest and prepare for them like any other opponent. They proved last week that they have got a strong pack and a few dangerous runners.”
