Morgan living the dream

Newport Gwent Dragons centre Tyler Morgan is relishing the chance to cap off a dream first season in senior rugby by reaching a European Challenge Cup final.

The 19-year-old talent, who signed a National Dual Contract alongside team-mate Hallam Amos this year, will line-up in the centre for the region’s Challenge Cup las-four clash at Edinburgh tonight. A victory would see the Rodney Parade side reach their first-ever European final.

And Morgan is desperate to be part of a history making Dragons side. He said: “This is my first full season so I’d be delighted to reach the final. There have been a lot of boys who have been here for a long time and not got near one so to have a trophy on the horizon is big for the club.

“We are going in the right direction. We just need to stick to our roles in attack and defence. Everyone knows what they are doing and I am confident we can get the win.

“This is definitely the biggest game I’ve played in with the most buzz and most talk about it. Edinburgh have a good driving maul and good variety with the backs. We’ve got to expect anything.”

If the Dragons can muscle their way past the Scottish side, they will face a Twickenham Stoop finale against either Exeter Chiefs or Gloucester, who meet at Kingship tomorrow evening. The Dragons overcame Cardiff Blues to reach the last four stage, and Morgan is planning to change perceptions of the Gwent region.

He said: “Europe has been really good and a break from the Pro12. It’s given us momentum to take back to the league. We are just trying to get everyone to stop thinking of us as the bottom region as Wales. It was frustrating because we knew we were better than we had been playing at the start of the season.”
