Alongside Italy, Wales were always going to face major hurdles when it came to getting wins against the cream of South African schoolboy talent in this series.

With another successful ‘Craven Week’ behind them, SARFU Schools were able to pick two extremely strong teams for the competition. Craven Week is regarded as the toughest schoolboy rugby tournament in the world which meant the hosts were picking from strength when selecting their two sides for the competition.

Seeking their second win of the tournament, injuries and a suspension has limited some of Wales’ plans but WRU National Academy Manager, Gethin Watts said: “Once again we have made changes in order to give players opportunities in such an environment and to assess their ability at this level.

“South Africa ‘A’ pose a hugely competitive challenge and will be more of the same that we expected on this trip ie a physical and fast paced challenge.”

Wales will go into the match knowing SA Schools A will be without influential captain Héndre Stassen and flanker Zain Davids who have been called up to the SA Schools squad for the final round of the Under-18 International Series.
