For the third Foster’s 7s tournament at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, Sunday’s tournament will not only include a whole day of first class action involving some of the best sevens players in Wales, but fans will also have the chance to take to the field in a number of fun challenges.
During breaks in play, supporters who turn up in fancy dress will have the opportunity to pit their wits against each other in the Strongbow Spacehopper race, the Foster’s Passing Challenge or the Foster’s Final Obstacle Contest, with a number of top prizes on offer including tickets to Wales v Italy on September 5th, Under Armour gear and Foster’s beer.
Sevens is well-known for its fast-moving pace on the pitch and fun atmosphere off it and the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park is the place to be on Bank Holiday Sunday to be part of the action.
The 12 Principality Premiership sides are once again competing for the title, along with SSE SWALEC Championship sides RGC 1404 and Swansea, Welsh Exiles and Welsh Students.
The first match kicks off at 10am with champions Llandovery against local rivals Carmarthen Quins, and the Cup final is scheduled for 7.20pm. This year, in addition to the Cup and Plate, there will be a women’s competition, with the four regions battling it out for the Radler’s Women’s title.
Away from the field of play, there will be plenty of good food and drink on offer with Cardiff restaurants Punk Panda, Spiros, Purple Poppadom and Pitch on site with a range of tailored food and sample craft beer and cider offerings.
Ticket prices for the whole day event are just £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s. Family tickets are just £20 for 2 adults and 2 under 16s.

Llandovery’s Will Thomas, a Wales Sevens international said, “The Foster’s 7s gives us players the chance to throw the ball around and express ourselves. It’s what we aim to do in the 15-a-side game but it’s great to have this chance to show what we can do.
“A number of our club players have international sevens experience including Lee Rees so hopefully that will help us on the day. We know there will be some pressure on us as champions, but it’s just a great day out for everyone – players, fans and officials. The tournament is growing every year, it’s a party atmosphere so we’re all looking forward to Sunday.”
Pontypridd, who won the first Foster’s 7s title and were runners-up last year, include Alex Webber in their squad. Webber was first picked up from Ystrad Rhondda by the Wales Sevens set-up and won Player of the Tournament in the first year.
“I’ve not played sevens for a little while, but I have some expertise in the game, and am very much looking forward to the tournament on Sunday,” said the wing who went on to represent Wales Sevens for two seasons.
“We are all gearing up for Ponty to do well, having won and been runners up in previous years. Our focus in training this week will be on the sevens game, and with no fifteen-man game to play on the previous day, we should be well up for it on Sunday.
“There is a lot of talent in the squad, with players such as myself, Rhys Shellard, Gavin Dacey, Dale Stuckey and Lloyd Williams having represented Wales at various sevens levels, and we will be going full tilt for glory.
“The Ponty support should be out in force at the Arms Park, as they always are, and it’s our job to give them plenty to shout about, and to bring the Foster’s National 7s trophy back to Sardis Road.”
