Ponty will be eager to put behind them a low key pre-season during which defeats were conceded at home to Ealing Trailfinders and away to Henley Hawks.

The aim will be to re-ignite the spark that saw Pontypridd winning the corresponding league fixture at Parc y Scarlets last season by 13-61. That secured the double over Llanelli following a home win by 34-10 at Sardis Road.

A number of prodigal sons from the Blues regional ranks make a return to Ponty colours in readiness for the Llanelli clash, with the likes of full back Geraint Walsh, centre Adam Thomas and lock Chris Dicomidis all named in the starting line-up.

Sidelined through injury are centre Gavin Dacey (calf) props Chris Phillips (knee) and Pat Palmer (shoulder), lock Shaun O’Rourke (viral infection) and no8 Owen Sheppeard (knee) whilst winger Chris Clayton is away on honeymoon.

A competitive debut is in the meantime given to hooker Ashleigh James.
