He is planning to pursue new career opportunities in public relations and media consultancy.

The Group Chief Executive of the WRU, Martyn Phillips, said: “I want to thank John for his work for the Union and we all wish him every success in his future endeavours.”

John Williams said: “I have had nine incredible years working for the WRU and I want to thank everyone involved in the game for making it such a rewarding experience.

Overseeing the introduction and development of WRU TV, building a media team capable of engaging positively with our stakeholders and developing and launching the first Welsh Language Policy for the Union have been particular highlights.  The opportunity to work closely with Warren and the national squad has, of course, been truly amazing.

“I wish everyone at the WRU well for the future as I now move on to utilise my experience as a former Fleet Street journalist, senior ITV Wales broadcast executive and communications executive with the Union in a new consultancy role elsewhere.”

John’s role on the WRU Executive Board will be replaced in the New Year by a Head of Digital, reporting to Group CEO Martyn Phillips.
