The Whites ran in 11 tries to make it a miserable day for Glynneath, whose day was made more all the worse by a serious injury to Steff Jones. With Championship leaders Merthyr playing in the SSE Swalec Cup, Swansea were able to reduce their lead to more manageable proportions and still have a game in hand.
Tries from Rhodri Wells and Josh Flye helped the Whites to a 16-7 lead, before Fox’s second-half salvo ensured the hosts got themselves a bonus point. There were also Swansea scores after the break from Wells, Jack Perkins, Jedd Evans and Mike Sully, plus two from Paul John to wrap up this convincing triumph.
A scrappy game in North Wales saw RGC emerge as 38-6 winners against Newcastle Emilyn. Tom Hughes was the name on the lips of The Gogs’ fans – as both their try scorers share the same name.
First, loosehead prop Tom Hughes crossed to give RGC an early lead. And in the second half, his namesake, inside centre Tom Hughes scored immediately after entering the fray from the replacements’ bench. James Lang completed a superb kicking display with a second-half try to ensure RGC were triumphant.
Cardiff Met beat Llanharan 60-7 with a seven-try rout. The Students started well and led 15-0 at half-time through tries from lock Alec Dunbrant and wing James Beal. Centre Tom Morgan kicked a conversion and a penalty.
They then broke away with tries from centre Chay Smith, full-back Ollie Glass, replacement forward Shaun Howard and a second for Beal, as well as a penalty try. Outside-half Tyler Williams kicked 15 minutes, as the Students moved to 10th in the table.
Llanharan, who stay rock-bottom, managed a try through prop Tom Evans, which was converted by Scott Jones.
Elsewhere in the division, Beddau fought back from 7-0 and 10-6 down to beat Bridgend Athletic 21-16 at Mount Pleasant Park. This season’s new boys have settled well in the Championship and sit in sixth placed after this win.
