Cardiff reached the last four as the best runner-up from the three pools and find themselves drawn against a team that has already beaten them three times this season – and who they have to face again in the Principality Premiership at the BT Sport Arms Park six days later.
Ponty, the reigning Premiership champions, won both Pool 2 clashes with the Blue & Blacks, 32-16 at home and 44-30 away, and they also won the Boxing Day meeting in the Premiership, 18-8. They currently sit on top of the Premiership and are still in the SSE Swalec Cup.
Bedwas, who won five and drew one of their six pool matches, will be seeking to reach their biggest final on Saturday, 9 April, when they face Carmarthen Quins. Bedwas had a 14 point cushion at the top of Pool 3, while the Quins ended four points clear of Llandovery in Pool 1.
Head coach Steve Law will be able to point to two wins over the Quins by his side in the Premiership so far this season, 28-24 in Carmarthen on the opening day of the season and 40-30 at home in December, but knows that anything can happen in a knock-out game, especially as the Quins knocked Bedwas out of the SSE Swalec Cup n round two with a 23-13 home win.
“I will be drilling home the importance of this game into the team. It’s been a long time since this club won any silverware and we are all determined to give ourselves the best possible chance of coming away with the spoils,” said Law.
“We know our opponents well, having played them twice in the Premiership and in the Swalec Cup this season, so we will prepare accordingly.”
