Cowbridge targetting Cymoedd

Cowbridge Comprehensive School will have Coleg y Cymoedd very much in their sights when they entertain the reigning champions in the latest round of matches in the WRU Wednesday Under 18 League.

After successive wins over Cardiff & Vale College and Pembrokeshire College, James Holder’s side face the biggest test of their Cup campaign – and newly appointed director of rugby, Darragh McNamara, can’t wait to see how his team gets on.

“We owe Cymoedd after recent results against them. We have targeted this fixture all season and now we will find out just how good a side we can become,” said McNamara, who took over his role from David Griffiths.

“We are quietly confident and results in the last few games have confirmed that this Cowbridge side has a lot of ability. Most of the work we have done ahead of this game has been in getting the players mentally ready for a massive challenge.

“Our target this season is a top three finish and the belief in the squad grew after our 11-8 win over Cardiff & Vale and then the bonus-point triumph in Pembrokeshire. Cai Evans has steered the side well from No 10 and there is huge potential in our back line.

“The forwards have stepped up to the mark as well and we had four players in the Cardiff Blues ‘Super 6’ squad recently, with a further six in the broader training squad.”

Cymoedd were beaten at Coleg Sir Gar last month and if Clive Jones’ side fall at Cowbridge then they will drop from second to third in the table. League leaders Sir Gar have a bye this weekend, while Cardiff & Vale host
Coleg Gwent and Gower College entertain Pembrokeshire College.

In the Trophy tournament, league leaders Neath & Port Talbot College put their three match unbeaten record at Ysgol Glantaf. Last week they beat Llandovery College 36-13.

Llandovery will be seeking their first win when they welcome Whitchurch HS and the final fixture is at Bridgend College, where Newport HS are the visitors.
