The inter-regional clash kicks-off at 4pm on Saturday, following on from Llandovery’s pre-season fixture against Esher at 1.30pm. Scarlets are ready to ramp up their preparations ahead of their PRO14 opener against the Southern Kings on September 2.
A trio of debutants will be on show for the PRO14 champions against a young but talented Select XV. Australian centre Paul Asquith starts with former Ospreys Tom Grabham and Morgan Williams also getting an opportunity to pull on the Scarlets jersey. Rhys Jones partners former Dragons team-mate Jonathan Evans as the half-backs, while Wales Under-20 starlets Ioan Nicholas and Ryan Conbeer also get a chance to shine.
David Bulbring and Tom Price add experience in the second-row ahead of Josh Macleod, Shaun Evans and Jack Condy add an exciting mix of youthful exuberance in the back-row. Loosehead Dylan Evans returns from injury alongside Taylor Davies and tighthead prop Nicky Thomas.
The region’s opposition will be a Premiership Select side, made up of promising future regional talent from Carmarthen Quins, Llandovery and Llanelli. More than twenty years on from Frano Botica’s debut in a Scarlets shirt, against Bath, his youngest son Jacob will make his debut for the Premiership Select side as he starts as fly half.
The players will be keen to impress the Premiership Select coaches as they have one eye on preparation for the forthcoming British & Irish Cup campaign, which will see a combined regional side compete in the cross-border competition.
