Cambrian Welfare still Bowling along!

Cambrian Welfare stayed on course for a possible return to the Principality Stadium for the SSE Swalec Bowl final in May with a hard fought 11-3 home triumph against the students of the University of South Wales.

Second in Division 3 East A, Cambrian went all the way to the final last season before going down to Ystradgynlais in the final. Their reward for beating the students is a home draw in round four against one of three teams.

Brynithel have to play Ogmore Vale in their second round match to decide who faces Machen in round three. The winners of that game will then travel to Cambrian Welfare in the fifth round on 27 February.

In the Bowl games played last weekend, Burry Port were comfortable winners over Cardigan, scoring five tries in a 33-8 win. First-half tries from centre Dwayne Evans and scrum half Ben Williams put Port in control, before Bryn Jenkins, Richard Parker and Adam Rudall all crossed after the break to set-up a third round home clash with Cowbridge.

Tumble saw off Llantwit Major 28-19 to progress to the last 16, where they will host Markham. Tries from James Owen, Nick Allinson, Ian Davies, and Dafydd Humphreys kept the home side in the competition and there was also a vital eight points from the boot of Leighton McKenna.

A late rally gave Abercrave a dramatic 20-12 win over Nantyffylon, earning them a home draw in the fourth round against the winners of the Burry Port v Cowbridge fixure. Darren Hodge kicked 10 points and Adam Evans and Curtis Griffiths scored tries.

It was third time lucky for Penybanc as they defeated Bangor 50-5 after their match was called off twice due to a waterlogged pitch. They will now host Old Illtydians in round three with the winners travelling to Hartridge in the last 16.
