Cardiff Blues No8 Becky Newton was first to get over the whitewash which led to a brace of tries as Cardiff Blues attained their first win of the season in the Women’s Regional Championship.

Newton set the tone and the ruthless Blues attack led to tries from Raf Taylor, Kierra Louise and Amy Thompson putting the Blues comfortably in the lead. The Blues defence held strong in particular scrum half Rhi Parker and centre Tatyana Heard but the Ospreys managed to squeeze in a try just before half time, for the home side to have a comfortable 22-5 lead.

As the second half got underway, Blues wing Heather Rees was the first to cross the line after a dominant attacking effort.

Ospreys were quick to retaliate with tries through Bethan Kelland-Howells and Ffion Bowen as the visitors looked to close the gap but the Blues were quick to extend their lead even further as centre Cerys Ballet made hard yards across the line and Taylor followed for her second try of the match.

The Ospreys showed great determination and failed to give up as Alecs Donovan managed to cross the line, squeezing one last try on to the score board in the eleven-try thriller at the Arms Park.

Cardiff Blues Ladies next face Scarlets Ladies at Whitland on Sunday 28th February.
