The Wales wing, who ended six match dry spell in international rugby with his second half score in the 27-23 victory over the Scots at the Principality Stadium, is leading the way for the most metres made in the tournament, defenders beaten and the number of offloads made.
“George has taken a bit of stick from the boys of late for not scoring – it’s only a little bit of banter! Wingers should be scoring tries, shouldn’t they? But it has been great to have him back and finishing it off like that – it’s fantastic,” said Wales scrum half Gareth Davies.
“It was a fantastic finish to be fair to him, cutting back like that. Hopefully, he can keep scoring like that for the rest of the season.
“Wingers are confidence players and, hopefully, now he’s got this one, the drought is over and he’ll keep scoring tries. He’s actually been playing really well but, like I said, hopefully the drought is over and he’ll keep scoring tries.”
North’s three clean breaks last weekend helped him to notch 106 metres for Wales during the game and took his tally of metres made after two rounds to 177 – just ahead of three full backs, France’s Maxime Medard (169), Welsh team mate Liam Williams (158) and Scotland’s Stuart Hogg (151).
Only the Italian centre Michelle Campagnaro has made more breaks to date than North, with five to the Welshman’s three, but the Northampton Saints flyer has beaten more defenders than anyone else with six, four of which came on his way to scoring against the Scots.
He has also offloaded 14 times n his 160 minutes on the field of play in Dublin and Cardiff, compared to the next best of nine by Medard.
The official statistics also show that Wales No 8 Taulupe Faletau is the leading tackler in the tournament after two rounds with 33. More importantly, he has a 100 per cent success rate.
