The flagship team of the North Wales Development Region, newly promoted to the Premiership for the first time, requires a full time coach following the departure of former Leeds, Scarlets and Blues Director of Rugby Phil Davies who is committed to Namibia Rugby.

The Colwyn Bay based side has been promoted twice in four years since it was established six years ago, firstly under current Wales U20 forwards coach Chris Horsman who was head coach for three years following two years with Clive Griffiths at the helm.

Former WRU Head of Rugby Joe Lydon, who was instrumental in establishing North Wales as a Development Region, the RGC senior team and academy, is currently based in Parc Eirias on a short term, consultancy basis to support the coaching and playing programme and to help with the recruitment and retention of players and coaches in preparation for life in the Premiership.  He will lead the process to identify and recruit the best individual to take the side to the next level in its development.

WRU Head of Rugby Performance Geraint John said, “This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced head coach to steer RGC 1404 to the next level of their development as a semi-professional outfit and to further develop North Wales as a Development Rugby Region.

“The successful candidate will support the academy and age grade coaches and conditioning staff to ensure there is clear alignment right through the RGC performance pathway and work with the North Wales clubs who have been so critical to its success so far and will continue to play a key role.

“Along with the appointment of a new General Manager for North Wales, the new head coach will help to deliver key elements of the new Strategic Plan for North Wales, providing players with a best practice experience which enables them to achieve their full potential within North Wales and beyond, and to fully capitalise on participation in the Principality Premiership to ensure the North Wales Development Region is a fully integrated part of Welsh rugby.”
