Llandaff to host fun and inclusive festival

Young rugby players from across the region are guaranteed a sporting chance when Llandaff host a Half A Game festival on Sunday 25 September.

More than 200 kids, representing 16 rugby clubs, will be lacing their boots for a morning of rugby and every player will be given the opportunity to shine on the pitch.

From Barry to Llanishen, 20 teams have signed up for the free-to-enter event on the basis that every children gets the chance to play a minimum of half a game.

Festival hosts, Llandaff, were among the first to adopt the successful ‘Half A Game’ concept of fun and inclusivity to stop youngsters dropping out of the game.

Llandaff’s Youth Coach Alun Jones has seen first-hand how equal  playing opportunities through Minis and Juniors has promoted a ‘healthy respect’ among the players in the teams, right through to Youth. He said: “They are all part of the squad, part of the team so they have a good respect for each other and they want to play rugby together.” Watch the full WRUTV interview here.‎

The proud deliverers of Half A Game will showcase their rugby for all abilities culture when the District U10s matches get underway at 10.30am on Sunday. Also in the Blues region at the same time on Sunday, Barry will be hosting the U13s Half A Game festival.   

Everyone is invited join in the #HalfAGame conversation on social media via the WRU’s Community Twitter @WRU_Community, where clubs are encouraged to share their photos.

The 20 participating south Wales teams join more than 1,000 across Wales signed up to Half A Game, which aims to recruit and retain youngsters in the grassroots game by focusing on the rewards of rugby participation rather than the results of individual matches.
