Cup fever across Wales

Cup fever will be sweeping across Wales this weekend as more than 120 clubs play in the second round of the WRU National Plate and Bowl competitions as they seek to keep alive their dreams of a big day out at the Principality Stadium.

Last season’s Plate runners-up, Penallta, have home advantage over Brecon, while Brynmawr, who needed extra-time to edge past Risca 26-16 in the first round, host Bala. Another north Wales side, Division 1 North leaders and champions Pwllhelli, also head south to face Ynysddu.

Aberavon Quins needed a last minute try to sneak past Kenfig Hill 15-14 in the first round and their reward is a long trek north to meet Ruthin. In the WRU National Bowl, reigning champions Burry Port were too strong for Banwen in Round 1 and will host St Clear’s as they attempt to extend their unbeaten run.

The 2013 champions, Wattstown, had a walk-over in Round 1 and will entertain Pyle this weekend.
