The new agreement between the Council and the WRU for a five year term 2015-2020 will ensure all Wales Under 20 Six Nations home rugby games are played at Parc Eirias and Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC 1404) will retain Parc Eirias as their home ground and training facility.

This partnership is integral to the Council’s vision and continued development of Parc Eirias as the North Wales Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence and Events.

Cllr Graham Rees, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure, said “We have a great facility at Parc Eirias, it’s a key part of the Bay Life+ Regeneration Programme offering events and activities to stimulate regeneration, attract investment, boost local business and support business stability in the region. We’re very proud of the results of working so closely with WRU over recent years and we’re pleased to see rugby in North Wales go from strength to strength.”

WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis said, “This partnership is a great example of the power of rugby in Wales both on and off the pitch. Having top class rugby in north Wales through having the Wales Under 20 matches and RGC 1404 playing and training at the fantastic facilities at Eirias Stadium has clearly inspired a generation of potential rugby players in north Wales.

“In turn, the community engagement undertaken by the RGC players and management is already reaping clear health and social benefits.”

Cllr Dilwyn Roberts, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council said, “This is fantastic news, the WRU is a global brand, showcasing Wales and rugby around the world, we’re delighted to confirm our partnership will continue for another five years.”

As part of the agreement, General Manager Rupert Moon will continue to lead the overall RGC operation, working with the Council to identify commercial opportunities and promote community engagement in the region.

He added, “We have a true partnership with Conwy Council on many levels which is why it is so successful for both parties. The outstanding training and playing facilities which are constantly being developed allow north Wales players to be the best they can be, our partnerships with educational establishments ensure an off-field pathway, while our players are engaging in meaningful work within the community in areas such as social inclusion, health and education.”
