McBryde: We need to stop French early

Wales Assistant coach Robin McBryde has handed his players a mission to subdue the French early in the game to stop them unleashing a confident brand of rugby at the Stade de France.

He warned that a confident France would be a real danger as Wales attempt to make it a record equaling four wins in a row against their opponents.

McBryde said:

“If you face a French team that is confident then they can be a match for anybody,” he said.

“We have to keep them quiet early in the game or it is going to be a hard day for us.

“We are well aware of how dangerous France can be when they get enough of the ball.

McBryde said the French set piece and their driving lineout posed a threat but he declared that Wales have been growing in confidence during the competition so far.

“If we work hard we will get our just results. We have had a slow start in this Six Nations but we have been growing game by game, I am certain we can ask questions of the French pack,” he added.

“France will play to their strengths with a driving lineout and stong scrum they pose a big threat in those areas.

“We will just focus on our own game and focus on getting a good start which is very important.

“We want to pose a few questions and if we can keep them subdues early on we will do that.”
