The Wales senior squad management have taken the decision after the confirmation that the Wales and British and Irish Lions centre Jonathan Davies will miss the Rugby World Cup after suffering a knee injury.
The decision to withdraw Morgan from the Under 20 squad and announce his inclusion in the extended senior group will ensure his availability for the Rugby World Cup preparations.
Morgan signed a National Dual Contract in Autumn 2014 and was part of Wales’ RBS 6 Nations squad.
His Newport Gwent Dragons teammate Barney Nightingale will replace him in the Wales Under 20 Squad.
Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland said: “Although we are disappointed by the injury to Jonathan Davies we are delighted to have a player of Tyler’s calibre and potential to call on.
“It is unfortunate that he will miss out on the World Rugby U20 Championship but the decision we have taken now will give him the chance to focus entirely on this opportunity.
“I want to thank the Under 20 coaching and management team for responding so positively to our request and this is another example of how our pathway and National Dual Contract structure works to the benefit of Welsh international rugby.”
Wales Under 20 team manager Mark Taylor said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Tyler, we wish him all the very best over the summer and it also gives Barney Nightingale the opportunity to further develop his rugby at the World Rugby U20 Championship.”
