The club are always looking for new players to join their young teams, which start at under 7 level, where the non-contact ‘tag rugby’ version of the game is played and extend right up to youth level, feeding a successful senior team which plays in the WRU’s SWALEC national league division One West.
New players are invited to join an existing core of youngsters who train at the Parc – situated in Whitland town centre alongside the bowling club opposite the boxing gym – on Friday nights between 6 and 7pm and move to an indoor venue during the winter months.
Match-day comes on a Sunday with morning kick-offs around Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and regular home matches at Parc Dr Owen or the senior ground Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn, at the A40 roundabout next to cricket club.
The club, who celebrated 125years of rugby last year, have recently elected a new junior club chairman in former player and current under-12s coach Martin Nicholas – with congratulations going to Jason Bowen who vacates the junior club chairmanship to take up the position of chairman of the whole club.
With newly appointed coaches also on board at under-7 and under-9s level, joining the existing team, the season ahead looks exciting for the Whitland Junior Borders who host their annual invitation festival on Sunday 20th September at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn.
