Starlets primed for tournament

Rising starlets from the girl’s game will be hoping to impress later this week with East Wales and West Wales competing in the UK School Games in Manchester on September 4/5/6.

Players from Cardiff Blues and Dragons make up the East Wales squad while players from Scarlets and the Ospreys make up West Wales in the Under 18 category.

Selection was both squads was gained following the Regional 7s programme in May. Both squads have been training together over August in preparation for the tournament.

From this weekend, the Wales Under 18 side will be selected to compete in Europe next weekend.

East Wales will be coached by Tom Cole (Six Nations backs coach and Hub Officer in St Cenydd School) while West Wales will be coached by Rhys Roberts (Hub Officer in Ystylafera School).

In the past the UKSG has been a successful programme for Wales with many players using it as a springboard into international programme. Keira Bevan and more recently Jasmine Joyce have dome through this programme.
