Dixon relishing U20 return

Newport Gwent Dragons centre Jack Dixon says he is relishing the chance to take on England in Newcastle this Friday.

Dixon makes a welcome return to the Wales Under 20 side for the trip to Kingston Park, offering plenty of experience alongside captain Steffan Hughes in midfield. This is Dixon’s third year representing Wales Under 20 and after suffering injury problems for most of this season, he is raring to go.

Despite head coach Byron Hayward making 10 changes to his side, Wales field a strong outfit with Dixon joined in the starting XV by wing Ashley Evans. Both started against England last year in the Six Nations decider as well as the final of the Junior World Championship.

“I’m really excited to be back in camp – the boys are bouncing,” said Dixon.

“It’s gone quite well for them so far and I’m hoping I can add a little bit extra to the team. It’s been a long couple of months out with injury for me so I’m really excited to be back in the team and involved in the big games.”

The experience of Dixon is a huge boost for Wales going into Friday’s game. Tyler Morgan, Angus O’Brien and Tom Williams also come into the backline. In the pack, Ethan Lewis, Joe Davies and Ollie Griffiths all get starts.

On his return to the camp after suffering a foot injury with the Dragons, Dixon added: “I had a good start to the season but against Zebre back in October I tore the ligaments in my foot and had to have an operation. It’s been a couple of months out for me but I’ve been getting back into it, played two games and now I’m ready for Friday.

“The squad is a great place to be and a good environment. It’s very professional and every time I turn up to training, I’m learning.

“I‘ve played against England in a World Cup final and I’m hoping my experience, along with the other senior boys, will drive us on to a win on Friday.

“As a Welsh boy, playing against England is always the dream. They’re a tough team to play against, they’re always big, physical boys but we’re hoping to go up there, put in a big performance, front up to them and get the win.”
