St Alban’s league win was sealed in a hard-fought (10-33) game against home team New Panteg, who were also beaten at St Alban’s grounds less than a month ago. The double win has secured the first ever league title for St Albans, who are hoping that it will be a springboard to further success.

St Albans have performed well throughout this season, most recently securing a substantial 52-10 victory over Taff’s Well last week. With its core players having been together for a number of years (since the mini and junior leagues), St Albans are delighted to be celebrating their first league title, and are already making plans to build on today’s accomplishment.

Mike Neale, Club Captain, said: “This means everything for us to have won the cup this evening, I’ve been playing at the club since I was 10 years old and we have never achieved anything like this. It’s great to share this victory with the whole team and for St Albans to have finally been rewarded for all our hard work. From players one to 23, everyone has been focused on achieving this promotion and every single player has worked hard.”

Head Coach Martyn Fowler added: “This has been a long time coming, most of these boys have worked their way up from the under-eight squad and they all know each other; there is a desire to play well together. I came on board pre-season to just help out, but I have grown into the role and thoroughly enjoyed it. This has probably been one of the best experiences of my rugby coaching career.”
