Dragons Women and Girls Development Officer, Gwesyn Price-Jones, is looking forward to the afternoon’s action.
“We are looking to build on the success of the World Cup and Talent Identification day in September. I am looking forward to seeing the new players that emerged from the event,” he said.
“We have had a number of players move up from the U18 programme which is extremely exciting for our region. The regional women’s tournament is a great chance to see players from all divisions playing together.
“There have been a number of players who have come through the regional programme to reach the national squad over the past few season. It’s always a great day of rugby and this allows us as regional staffs to try combinations. It’s the first opportunity for players to showcase what they can offer us and the national squad coaches.”
Scarlets Women’s and Girls head coach Daryl Morgan, added: “I’m really excited by the squad we’re taking to the tournament, and with some of our girls being selected to go to Dubai with the Wales Sevens it’s given us the chance to take some players from the highly successful Scarlets Under 18’s squad and gives us an opportunity to see how they adapt to playing at the higher level while the younger players get the opportunity to play alongside international players such as Caryl Thomas, Caryl James and Dyddgu Hywel.
“Some of the younger players to look out for this weekend are Scarlets Under 18’s captain Alisha Butchers, Jennie Collins from Whitland Ladies and Penybanc’s Hannah Jones.
“We’ll be using the weekend to try out different combinations looking forward to the regional games starting later on in December.
