Pugh double not enough for Quins

Two tries for Josh Pugh weren’t quite enough for Aberavon Quins at the bottom of SWALEC Division 1 West, as the struggling side frustratingly lost out 20-15 at home to Llangennech.

While the Quins are still without a victory this season, Carmarthen Athletic were looking for their fifth win on the bounce as they travelled to Skewen and narrowly succeeded. The Red and Blacks came away 20-17 winners and remain in a strong position in the top four.

Kidwelly pulled a fine performance out of the bag to send Kenfig Hill down 23-8, and Loughor No.10 Andrew Banfield scored all the points in their 14-6 away win at Waunarlwydd.

In Division 2 West, leaders Builth Wells gave their top spot position a boost in a comprehensive home defeat of Maesteg Quins. The 27-6 win leaves the Bulls as favourites for the league title, especially as second placed Seven Sisters threw away too many penalties at Maesteg to miss out 20-17.

It was four tries a piece at Gorseinon in Division 3 West, but the Friday night fixture saw away side Tumble grab a 29-20 win. In a seven try drubbing at Llanelli Wanderers, it finished 50-3 to visitors Amman United. The leaders continue their impressive form and are without a loss since September.

In Division 4 West, Tycroes increased their lead at the top with a 27-7 bonus point win over Nantgaredig.
