Cuthbert hopes victory will kick-start season

Two-try hero Alex Cuthbert hopes Cardiff Blues’ victory over Edinburgh rugby can kick start their season.

The capital city outfit have endured mixed fortunes this term and were under pressure following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Zebre and Leinster.

But they got back to winning ways against the lowly Scots on Sunday and Cuthbert reckons it could be the perfect catalyst.

The Blues are next in action in the opening round of the Heineken Cup against Exeter Chiefs on Sunday.

“Hopefully this can kick-start our season,” said Cuthbert.

“It’s a good confidence booster going into the Heineken Cup.

“A lot of people will right us off but we are a tight-knit group and looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“We are showing in bits that we can play and if we can get the all-round 80-minute performance we can get the wins.”

Cuthbert has carried on his blistering form from the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia for the Blues.

The Wales wing has touched down three times in four appearances for the region this season.

Cuthbert’s second-try against Edinburgh was a sensational team effort and the 23-year-old was unfortunate not to claim a hat-trick.

“It went through just about everybody’s hands,” added Cuthbert.

“It was a great bit of play by everybody and I was just lucky enough to finish it off.

“It was good to be part of a team try that and a good team performance. I got the ball quite a bit and as a team we got what we wanted, we got the win.”
