The Vale of Glamorgan side ran in five tries and played some entertaining rugby in what was a comfortable win at the WRU Centre of Excellence.

A try from Jack Davies and the boot of impressive fly half Tyler Williams had given Cowbridge a 10-0 half time lead though it could, and maybe should, have been more.

In the end it failed to matter as Matt Silva’s side ran in four more scores in the second half – Harri Thomas, Williams, Nick Griffiths and Jordan Viggers completing a facile victory.

The first half had started with both sides conceding plenty of penalties but a superb individual break from Williams gave Cowbridge the first chance of points. The fly half was successful with the penalty and after Gower’s Matthew Aubrey had missed a chance to level things up, Cowbridge began to stamp their mark on the game.

Davies got the first try of the day as he burrowed over, Williams converting to extend his side’s advantage to 10 points. With the penalties continuing, both sides paid the price with Gower’s Ben Davies and Cowbridge skipper Dan Holder both yellow carded before the end of the half.

Nonetheless, it was Cowbridge who were well on top with James Whittingham carrying strongly in midfield and Tom Hayward and Viggers impressing up front.

Despite being down to 14 at the start of the second half, Cowbridge continued their dominance. A superb offload from prop Joel Ringer nearly created a second try but it wasn’t long before a score arrived. When it did, it was Thomas who finished off a simple overlap though the third try was a different story. Cowbridge broke from well inside their own half, Williams scorching clear and exchanging passes with Thomas before diving over himself.

Both conversions were unsuccessful but with the game won, Cowbridge added two more scores in the final quarter to comfortably secure a bonus point. Griffiths finished off an impressive team move involving Whittingham and that man Williams before Viggers crossed with just a few minutes remaining.

Williams added the extras to both tries to complete an impressive personal display and a comfortable team victory.
