Stradey Park Set For Sell-out

Stradey Park is set to host the biggest club crowd of the season in Wales when
Llanelli face the Heineken Cup champions Leicester Tigers in their crucial European clash on Saturday (kick-off 3.00 pm).
With two days to go before the vital Pool 1 match – if Llanelli win they
could qualify for the quarter-finals – some 9,300 tickets for the game had
been sold.
Cardiff’s Boxing Day gate of 10,513, when they played Pontypridd in the
Welsh/Scottish League, is the season’s high to date, while Newport’s Heineken Cup crowd for their game against Leinster was not far behind at 10,226.
Stradey Park has a capacity of 10,800 these days, a far cry from when more
than 20,000 were able to cram into the world famous ground.
“Every stand seat at the ground has gone and the only tickets left are
behind the posts at either end,” said a Llanelli spokesman.
“There are 300 places left on the covered East Terrace and a possible 1200 to be filled on the open-air West Terrace.
“Tickets for these areas are £8 for adults and £6 for concessions. We expect them all to go to give us a capacity gate of 10,800.
“Our advice to those fans who want to see the game is to book a ticket in
advance by calling the Stradey Park Ticket Hotline on 0871 8718088 or by
calling at the ground.
“Leicester fans have bought a lot of tickets and it sounds as though there
is going to be a wonderful and noisy challenge thrown down to the Llanelli
fans from the Tigers’ supporters.
“The Llanelli fans were in superb voice when the Scarlets went to Welford Road at the start of the season and lost narrowly, so there should be a great atmosphere at the ground.”
