Cup Kings Llanelli Move Through To Quarters Again
NEWBRIDGE 5, LLANELLI 24
Llanelli cruised into their 27th Principality Cup quarter-final in 31 years as they ran in three second half tries at the Welfare Ground.
The only points of a wind affected first half came in injury time when the Scarlets outside half Gareth Bowen kicked a penalty.
The visitors had opted to play into the wind in the first half and they had to battle hard to keep the home side at bay with the elements at their backs.
But as soon as they changed ends, the Heineken Cup semi-finalists hit their straps.
Garan Evans was first to cross with a try seven minutes after the restart. Then the veteran cup campaigner Wayne Proctor got in on the act.
Not to be outdone, Newbridge hit back gallantly and they worked Andrew Green over for a consolation try.
Finally, back row man Gareth Williams grabbed try number three for Llanelli and Bowen made it a hat-trick of conversions to complete the job.
Now it’s Bridgend in the quarter-finals for Llanelli.
