Llanelli Face Ebbw Vale Without Skipper Quinnell
Llanelli will be without their captain Scott Quinnell when the Scarlets take on Ebbw Vale in the Principality Cup semi-finals at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
British Lion Quinnell has been counted out because a knee injury which has been troubling him since he skippered Wales against England at Twickenham three weeks ago.
He said: “I won’t be playing on Saturday. I will spend the next week resting as I need to build up the muscle round the knee but I should be back in action soon.”
The match on Saturday is the start of an hectic end to the season for the Scarlets as the next leg of their european campaign looms large and they chase the Welsh-Scottish league title.
But coach Gareth Jenkins is determined to focus on the immediate task ahead.
He said: “The Welsh Cup means everything to our club and we will not look any further than Saturday. That is how mistakes are made. I consider the Principlity Cup to be as important as the Heineken Cup.
“People have us down as favourites but any side coached by Mike Ruddock is a good side and Saturday should be a great day for Welsh rugby.”
Ebbw Vale coach Mike Ruddock said: “We are going to enjoy ourselves as we are going in as the underdogs. There is no doubt about that but I think the Welsh fans sometimes like that so hopefully it will be a good game.”
