Jenkins In Starting Line-up For Cardiff
Neil Jenkins will start his first game of rugby in 11 months when Cardiff take on Bridgend in the Welsh/Scottish League match at the Arms Park tonight(Tuesday, kick-off 7.15 pm).
The world record points scorer in test rugby last started a game when playing for the British & Irish Lions against NSW Country on 26 June last year. He subsequently played as a replacement in the second test against Australia but was then sidelined for several months.
Jenkins made his comeback as a replacement for Cardiff against Caerphilly on 17 April and also appeared briefly against Glasgow last week.
He is one of eight changes in personnel, plus two positional changes, from the side that started against Swansea last Saturday.
Eight players were unavailable for selection: Rob Howley, Dan Baugh, Spencer John, Gary Powell, John Tait, Pieter Muller, Anthony Sullivan and Craig Morgan. The club is still awaiting news of John’s knee scan.
Emyr Lewis returns to action after his neck injury against Edinburgh and captains the team for the third time this season. Adam Jones will be playing his 19th game, one short of qualification for a deserved club cap in his first season.
Two players who have long since qualified for their club caps are Rob Appleyard and Matt Allen. Both will be making their 29th appearance out of a possible 32 games played by the club.
Nicky Robinson is top scorer for the season with 184 points in 22 games and plays against Bridgend at full back.
