Cottrell: Ospreys up for the challenge

Ospreys head coach Dan Cottrell is expecting his young team to make an impression in this year’s WRU Women’s Regional competition.

Cottrell has one of the least experienced side’s in the fledgling competition with flanker Lisa Newton, lock Shona Powell Hughes and centre Adi Taviner the only full internationals in the squad. However he believes the squad would have learned a lot from last season.

“Last year was my best coaching experience ever with the regional side – I really enjoyed it,” said Cottrell.

“The girls really responded well to playing in a different environment than from their clubs. We were able to develop them which helps supports the clubs.”

Cottrell will be assisted by Ceri Wyatt and Keith Hopkins for the forthcoming campaign which kicks off on Friday at Llandarcy Academy of Sport between 6-8pm with their first training session. Thereafter training sessions will be at Waunarlwydd on Wednesday nights, starting on 27th October from 6:30pm.

The Scarlets will be holding a training session open to all players at Ammanford on Saturday between 10am-12.30.
