Lamont, 25, has made 15 appearences for Scotland as either wing or fullback but Coach Frank Hadden has decided he will not add to that total this weekend after consulation with team doctor James Robson.

Dr Robson said: “Rory has damaged his left shoulder and left ankle. He will require further assessment but will be unavailable for selection for this week’s game in Cardiff.”

Robson also reported that a number of other Scotland players had sustained “the usual bumps and bruises associated with a Test match” and that they would require further monitoring and treatment over the next 24-36 hours.
