BLUES CRUISE TO VICTORY

The powerfully-built Wales scrum-half – coming off a man-of-the-match performance against France last weekend – scored the opening try and used his strength and step to keep the home side on the front foot throughout the match.

The win is good news for fellow Welsh regions, the Ospreys and the Dragons, with Glasgow suffering a blow to their hopes of stealing the 24th Heineken Cup spot next season.

Early injuries to centre Marc Stcherbina and lock James Goode didn’t help the Blues’ cause, but Phillips brushed aside the defence to go over on the quarter-hour mark, and the home side were in control two minutes later when fly-half Nicky Robinson toed the ball ahead before diving on it for the second score.

Scottish international Dan Parks pegged back three points, but promising winger Chris Czekaj dotted down in the corner to give the Blues a deserved 17-3 lead into the halftime break.

Dai Young’s side bagged a try bonus point in only the 48th minute when Wales flanker Martyn Williams was driven over, and the knife was twisted in Glasgow’s back when All Black legend Jonah Lomu was sent on. Unfortunately for Arms Park fans, it was 15 minutes before the big man touched the ball, and he lost it in contact.

Another replacement, backrower Andy Powell, scored the Blues’ fifth try to take them past the 30-point mark in a one-sided affair.
